environment conservation

What about Bamboo year?

Do you know that 2010 has become warmest year ever recorded in history? Global warming, environmental degradation and climate change are the rising concerns in today’s context. We have already fallen behind in taking steps to conserve the environment. However, there are still methods that can be adopted to preserve the environment. Radical changes are required to protect the world. I think bamboo will also be a great contributor for saving the sweating world.

Our country’s climatic condition, land topography as well as the amount of rainfall will be a great boon for bamboos. Bamboo can grow generally in almost all areas of the country except the Himalayan region. Bamboo is tall and cylindrical tree with well developed root system that can easily spread over other areas. It does not require much care, labour and attention after a certain stage of growth.

It can contribute significantly to protect our environment because it is a green plant that can provide with oxygen; this helps to maintain a proper balance in the air cycle. It also holds the soil tightly preventing soil erosion during high rainfall or floods. A bamboo forest can also

be a good source of firewood, fodder and building material.

It would be helpful to plant bamboo around barren land. It would be great if we could carry out this mission in the individual and national level as well. Can’t we declare a whole year as “Bamboo Year”? By taking such steps, we can help to conserve our environment and contribute to solving the burning issues concerning the natural world.
